“But among you there must no be even a hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person – such a man is an idolator – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
Ephesians 5 v 3 – 5
It is interesting that Paul, when speaking about things that ought not to be done, does not say “There must not be sexual immorality, impurity …”, instead he goes even further than that, saying, “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, impurity …” It is not just enough to look pure on the outside, but it must not be even hinted at that these things might exist as part of our lives, or, God forbid, as part of our ecclesia.
Are there hints of sexual immorality or impurity in your life?
- Is there pornography or other illicit material on your computer or phone, or links to it in your browsing history? Or have you been wiping the history, or using incognito tabs for some reason?
- Are there explicit romance novels on your bookshelves?
- Are there sex scenes, constant references to sex, or sexual innuendo, in the TV series or movies that you watch?
Are you willing to truly and honestly examine yourself, with the help of God and His Word, and purge out all sexual immorality from your life so that not even a hint of it remains?
